The idea for The Club by Dominik Mager (TCDM) was born by a happy coincidence leveraged into a novel business solution and community service. Prior to meeting their neighbor, celebrity hair stylist Dominik Mager, Central Harlem residents Raju Dave and Radha Nadkarni had to commute to midtown or downtown for any hair related services. They found that most of their friends in the neighborhood were running into a similar issue- there simply was no satisfactory hair salon in their neighborhood! Serendipitously, as Raju was getting his first haircut from Dominik, a lightbulb went off in his head. He and Dominik discussed a creative alliance. The very next day, Raju got Radha involved in the innovative venture now known as The Club by Dominik Mager.
The owners of TCDM set out “to develop a world-class chain of salons which provide a social environment, make you feel comfortable, and add an edge to the traditional idea of hair artistry.”
Raju and Radha provide strategic management of all salon operations, marketing, PR, and social media so that Dominik can concentrate on what he is best at – developing and maintaining client relationships, training new staff and attracting new clients to experience The Club.
The founders’ skills and backgrounds create a perfect synergy:
Dominik discovered his passion at an early age. As a young boy, he would play stylist with his sister’s Barbies, then bribe her with new dolls when she threw a tantrum over her ‘made-over’ dolls.
He has come a long way from his upbringing in a tiny German village, travelling across two continents to fulfill his dream.
His first job was as a hair stylist in Stuttgart, Germany. From there, Dominik embarked on a career-altering path beyond his wildest aspirations. As the head stylist at an exclusive hotel in Zurich, Dominik met Caroline Scheufele, owner of the luxury Swiss jewelry brand, Chopard. This chance encounter propelled Dominik onto the global stage.
Soon he became a permanent fixture backstage at events such as the Cannes Film Festival, the Elton John White Tie and Tiara Ball in London, the Oscars, amfAR Ball and the Golden Globes, and rubbing elbows with the elite. He considers himself fortunate to work and socialize with European celebrities and models. His clientele also includes actors such as Clair Danes, Rose McGowan, Blake Lively, and Kaylee Defer, among others.
The whirlwind of being an international stylist further fueled Dominik’s passion. However, he was hungry for something new and different, that he could call his own. This led him to New York.
Here he met and has set down roots with the love of his life, his husband Tré. He also met two neighbors: investor Raju Dave and fashion expert Radha Nadkarni. All agreed there was a gaping need in their South Harlem neighborhood for a full-service salon. It was the perfect opportunity for an innovative salon/lounge concept, The Club by Dominik Mager.
Dom sums up his charmed life this way: “I consider myself blessed to be doing what I believe I was put on this planet to do: make men and women feel beautiful. Each client interaction is a joy. My fulfillment also involves helping to develop and/or promote best-in-class products. It centers on creating a unique salon/lounge/social club environment for my neighborhood. For my team, it means creating a fun, family-like work environment that attracts, trains and encourages amazing artists to do their best work. These are all integral parts of my life’s dream. I am thrilled to be exactly where I am today.”
As a results-oriented, decisive leader who can identify and implement strategies that maximize ROI and IT resources, Raju has consistently developed and introduced successful new software products and services for international markets. His astute entrepreneurial instinct has helped him build new marketing channels and strategic alliances, based on the vast people-centric possibilities of technology.
He has worked with several multinationals and Fortune 100 companies in his capacity as a technology specialist and innovator, where he oversees the application of emergent technologies to empower businesses.
His pioneering spirit eventually led Raju to help set up Avanara, a technology services consultancy and outsourcing company, where he serves as mentor and board member. The same instinct for innovation has driven Raju’s vision for Sysmedic, a patented, fully integrated health & science solution for smarter and more personalized health care.
Radha is the co-founder of marin + morgan, a New York based kids’ luxury apparel brand for pre-tweens. Prior to founding marin + morgan, Radha was the US Sales Director for Dutch fashion label Scotch & Soda. Previously, she led wholesale divisions for renowned corporations such as Ralph Lauren, Prada, Donna Karan and Alice + Olivia. Raised in an entrepreneurial family, Radha has a natural instinct for business. Radha holds an MBA from Columbia University and an undergraduate business degree from New York University.
